Blackstar Early Access 0.2

PREMISE:

It is 2054, 15 years ago something called the Blackstar Incident occurred, the Incident originated in the Nasteryovich experimental Gaskonium Power Plant.

Gaskonium is an element discovered 4 years prior to the incident, it is capable of producing 5 times the energy output of Uranium 235 when it undergoes induced fission.

Naturally, experimentation around this incredibly efficient power source sprung up, by 2039, the year of the incident, 7 Gaskonium power plants existed, Nasteryovich being one of them, Nasteryovich was situated in Nizhny Novgorod, 422 km from Moscow.

scientists studying gaskonium were aware that thanks to Gaskonium's massive potential power output, it could create a Chernobyl incident of catastrophic proportions.

So they developed an experimental device.

This device was designed to absorb the massive amounts of radiation and energy if the core did explode, a prototype was being tested in the Nasteryovich plant.

On a brisk october morning the plant workers carried out their regular duties, replacing the control rods and mixing hydrogen with the water in the temperature regulation tanks.

They had to make sure they added the correct amounts of hydrogen to prevent an explosion, however, due to the blatant clumsiness of a plant worker, a vat of hydrogen was upset and emptied it's contents into the tanks.

This was immediately reported to the shift overseer, who ordered a slow shutdown of the core, however another act of cluminess in the workers caused the energy output to suddenly plummet dangerously, to bring the energy output back up the control rods were removed, by this time the gate regulating the flow of coolant into the core was almost completely closed.

For an unknown reason the energy output suddenly spiked and the overseer pressed the emergency button, which caused the coolant gates to open fully, however due to the high hydrogen content of the coolant and this sudden influx, the core was overloaded, it's energy output rose from 20 to 60 thousand vps in half a second.

This caused the core to implode...

The entire city of Nizhny Novgorod was blown out within 3 seconds.

Within 30 seconds the shockwave reached Moscow.

2 minutes after the explosion, the shockwave reached Smolensk.

The estimated casualty count of these first 2 minutes is around 50 million.

Due to the massive energy output the regulatory device inside the core was temporarily overloaded. But by about 10 minutes after the explosion the device activated fully and begun to siphon radiation from a 1000 km radius.

Within a week the radiation levels in moscow had dropped to the point where you could survive with a military grade HAZMAT Suit.

15 years later, the radiation is down to a survivable level, however prolonged exposure will lead to multiple forms of cancer and at best, minor erosion of the stomach lining, and total destruction at worst and other side effects.
